The first images produced were monochromatic and even now, with all the color choices possible, there is still nothing quite as stunning and gaze-inducing as a well composed black and white.
I chose to blend these two categories together because in my mind they are inextricably linked. No longer confined to bowls of fruit, a still life can draw on any subject, manmade or otherwise.
A landscape conjures images of rolling mountains and grazing sheep (and I can do that). But in this area, I really feel a need to be as visually dramatic as possible. In my mind a land/skyscape can also be as stark as a tree branch winding through an otherwise spotless sunny sky; as unassuming as the background of your daydream.
Sometimes things around us are so commonplace that we forget how beautiful they can be. But change the depth, move the composition just a hair and all of a sudden you remember all the details you didn't realize you had forgotten. This is by far my favorite style of photography, and I think it's because life is so quick that I want to make sure I can recall all of the glorious details.
